Southern Belle (words & music by Roy Evan Burstiner)
Sailing down the water, steamboat with the tide
Carries all our memories, when we take this ride
On this great big river, where our dreams are found
Take it straight and true we’re Mississippi bound
She once was bright and shiny, many years ago
Ageless with a beauty, takes it nice and slow
As they wave to her from shoreline, as she passes by
When the Southern belle slips easy thru the night
The old ones tell her story, children’s eyes grow wide
Of the great ol' lady, her journey’s filled with pride
Time stands still for no one, even this ol' girl
Many souls she’s greeted, from around the world.
And the honor of the travel, for the old and young
She’s the Southern Belle and she shining in the sun
Her weathered sides are battered, her paint is worn out thin
Her many years are numbered, but she keeps it all within
She’s rocking on the water, with a gentleness so fine
The steamboat whistle blows a tune that is yours and mine
As she makes her way up the river, an eternal light
That’s the Southern Belle as she eases thru the night
That’s the Southern Belle as she eases thru the night
That’s the Southern Belle as she eases thru the night
